Feed the Spirit
Taste and See!
Mya was named in celebration of a "Phenomenal Woman" who has inspired and continues to inspire and uplift the human spirit. She literally touches your very core. I stumbled across her in college at a local bookstore, on a crowded shelf. The book , "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" which ultimately led me down a path of inspiration with various authors of color. If you haven't had the pleasure of experiencing the book, you should! However, the spelling of Mya's name came from a little girl whom I had the pleasure of teaching over a decade ago; her tender spirit dwells with me still.
Listen to the Spirit of Dr. Maya Angelou...
"For Africa to me... is more than a glamorous fact. It is a historical truth. No man can know where he is going unless he knows exactly where he has been and exactly how he arrived at his present place."

"It's time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength."
"Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."
"We should all know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color."
"History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again."
"How important it is for us to recognize our heroes and she-roes!"
"I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver."
"When you learn, teach. When you get, give."
"Courage is fear that has said its prayers."
"I am the dream and the hope of the slave."
"You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don't make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can't take their eyes off of you. All the other tangible things will come as a result."
